Default Kernel update 07182008

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p with SLED 10 SP2. After updating the kernel to the latest kernel to 2.6.16.60-0.25 from 2.6.16.60-0.23 my cd/dvd drive stopped working giving the following error messages:

Jul 18 20:33:43 draco kernel: ide-cd: weird block size 524288
Jul 18 20:33:43 draco kernel: ide-cd: default to 2kb block size
Jul 18 20:33:43 draco kernel: ide-cd: weird block size 524288
Jul 18 20:33:43 draco kernel: ide-cd: default to 2kb block size
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: ATAPI device hda:
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: Error: Medium error -- (Sense key=0x03)
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: (reserved error code) -- (asc=0x10, ascq=0x90)
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: The failed "Read 10" packet command was:
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: "28 00 00 00 00 40 00 00 08 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hda, sector 64
Jul 18 20:34:37 draco kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hda, logical block 8

I have since reverted back to 2.6.16.60-0.23 so that I may continue to work; has anybody encountered this issue or a fix to the above kernel upgrade/read failure?
