Default Samba - Load/Save Settings XP Problem

SAMBA - XP Client Load/Save Settings Delay

Issue Description: I have a problem with new a Linux file/samba server running SLES 10. We upgraded/changed domain controller servers from RH8.0 to a SLES 10 machine, running very standard public shared directories and basic domain controller functions at a two-facility public library.

Everything at main library branch is fine--all XP clients logon/logoff normally, but all XP clients and all accounts at the remote branch (different subnet) take 4-40 minutes to load and save settings at logon/logoff. The two branches are connected via a VPN.

The remote branch clients will still connect to the old domain (RH8.0) server fine, and logon/logoff normally.

I have tried both using our ISP's DNS server and the SLES computer as the DNS server (although I didn't need to change the previous RH server, and everything with it is fine).

I suspect this is a WINS problem. I have "wins support = Yes" in both smb.conf files, and the XP clients use the new Samba server IP as their netbios server.

Suggestions?
