Default LDAP Authentication

I'm curious how the LDAP client works from YAST>Network Services on 64bit SLES10 SP2. LDAP authentication works with this method but I'm not sure how.

The directory schema was previously extended for posix to allow unix authentication.

My question is what happens when I used YAST and install the LDAP client. What packages are installed? What was edited?

I see that nsswitch.conf and ldap.conf files have been changed.

But I do not see any edits to files in /etc/pam.d such as common-auth. I was expecting to see pam_ldap.so in these files.

Thank you.
