Default VFS: cannot open root device

Hi,
A client had a array controller failure in their hp dl380 (integrated
controller - smart array 5i - i think), running Suse Linux 7.2. They added
a new smart array 641 controller. But now when we boot up we get the
following:

It tries to load the cciss module but it seem to fail.
.....
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem)
Loading Module CCISS ...
using /lib/moduels/2.4.4-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/block/cciss.o
Compaq CISS driver (v 2.4.5)
/lib/moduels/2.4.4-64GB-SMP/kernel/drivers/block/cciss.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can b caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters
kmod: Failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-104, errno = 2
VFS: cannot open root device "6803" or 68:03

We booted using live cd and could see the disks. I mounted the partitions
and can get to the data, but we cannot boot into linux.
Any help will be much appricated.
It seems as if the array controller driver is messing things up. Do we
need to update drivers? if so any ideas on how I can do this.

Thanks
