Default Single core to Quad Core Upgrade

Hi,
I'm about to upgrade the CPU in a server running SLES 10.
From a single core Intel, to a Core2 Quad CPU.
I'm hoping to do this with out rebuilding from scratch.
Is this possible? I'm assuming that it just a matter of replacing the kernel with a Multi Processor Support Kernel.
I'm also running 64Bit SLES.

I did notice a comment in the SMP kernel that it only supports up to 4 GB of RAM, does anyone know if this is correct?

Cheers,
Michael
