Default SLES9 SP4 SCSI SANNetII problems

We have previously been using SLES9 SP3 with no problems and connecting to out DotHill SCSI (Ultra320) SANNet II RAID array, but now moving to SP4 on a new PC and we find that the first time we run commands like diskinfo or try and access via LVM it takes about 10 minutes for the system to respond. However, after that responses seem OK for a while. We can't put SP3 on this new PC as it has a different network card that need a driver in SP4. We are using exactly the same cabling and disk array that works fine on the SP3 system.

I've checked kernel settings and they seem to be pretty much the same (except kernel version, obviously)

Any suggestions as to where to find info on this problem or begin troubleshooting is much appreciated.
