Default Serious issue with SLES11 boot from SAN with multipath or PP

We installed SuSE Linux in a boot from SAN environment using multipath. We were not able to mount the root and swap partitions as device-mapper devices. Furthermore we found out during testing that the system crashes immediately after plugging out 1-2 FibreChannel cables from the 6 HBAs we have on our ES7000-7600 3 cell Stack system.

We actually tried to use PowerPath instead of multipath but with the same outcome except that boot from emcpower-devices works almost fine. Nonetheless the system hangs after unplugging 1-2 cables.
Additional information about drivers and used hardware/software:
• SuSE Linux Enterprise Edition 11 with latest applied patches (26.10.2009)
• multipath-tools-0.4.8-40.6.1.x86_64
• Emulex HBA driver 8.2.8.14 for Linux
• SAN is a EMC Clariion CX4-120 with FLARE 4.28.000.5.706
• PowerPath 5.3 SP2

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Juergen
