sles10sp1 will not install on Proliant 3000

I've got an old proliant 3000 I want to set up as an scsi target so I can
play with vmware.

sles10sp1 cd1 boots to the installation screen fine, but then it can't see?
mount? the cd to continue the install.

I've tried using the SAFE install path with the same results.

Is there any way to work around this?
