I would also look at the SLES firewall. You may not be forwarding the ICMP
traffic. In /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 the setting "FW_KERNEL_SECURITY" is
probably set to yes. And I would also guess that "FW_ALLOW_PING_DMZ" is set
to yes. Which means that it will prevent ICMP traffic from being forwarded.
