Thanks Jens,
afaik we're not using WINS - I just went with the out of the box windows XP setup.
Funny thing is, that I installed SLES 9, under Xen and it registered - with two ip addresses which was an issue. Now I've rebuilt those VM's as SLES 11 and I don't seem to get any registration!

Guess, I may have to go to the big corporate network admins ....

There's a dynamic update protocol for DNS name servers, ISC dhcpd (which you're probably running on your Linux box) supports that protocol. But whether your Windows name server does so - I don't know.

As for "other ways to update name servers" - change their database manually ;-)
