Default Online Updating causes high CPU Utilization

I have had to remove novell-zmd from loading on startup. When I try to update patches on my SLES10 SP1 server, there is a process called parse-metadata that consumes 99% of the CPU. If I kill this process then another process consumes all of the CPU, this process is called update-status. Is there a configuration change that needs to be done to allow online updates without having it consume all of the cpu? I have 3 SLES10 SP1 servers running as Vmware ESX 3.5 guests and they all have the same problem when accessing and pulling down updates from Novell. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!
