Default dvd's not mounting

Attempting to upgrade sles 10 sp1 to sp2. Original install was completed using CD-Roms but now I had downloaded dvd's to do upgrade. Have attempted to get dvd's to mount and launch using two different dvd drives, neither will work. Attempted to use both with a usb/ide adapter and to put drives in the box using ide cables inside of Proliant ML 350 G4 srvr. Srvr never boots from dvd. Once gui is launched dvd's cannot be mounted. An error that states two // can't be in path????? Put a CD in the dvd drive and it is read fine. Have tested dvd's on windows wrst and they boot to the install gui fine. Seems to be with the sles box but my lack of knowledge with linux minimize what I can do to figure out why dvd won't mount and thus launch the install gui.

Wow, disconnected the cd rom drive that came in gl 350 and connected only the dvd and low and behold, the dvd mounted and install gui launched.

I would appreciate anyone's knowledge on why this occurs.

seems like a hardware or ide controller limitation.
