Default SLES 10 SP2, Kernel update question.

I have a question regarding kernel updates, and what's going on behind the scenes when one is performed on a SLES.

I have a SLES 10 SP2 server, and we recenetly had an issue with its most recent kernel. I was rather surprised when i attempted to fall back to the previous kernel, and found that it, and all of its modules, were missing.

/boot contained no data pertaining to my older kernel, and /lib/modules/<oldkernel>/ was empty.

Does the update process clean out the older kernel after the new one has been successfully installed? Or am i dealing with some sort of an error in the update process here?

I've checked on other SLES boxes, and they all seem to have the same setup, the current kernel is available, but older kernels are missing.

If this is the default behaviour, is there a way to configure things such that the old kernel is kept around in case of issues?

Thanks!
