You might want to ask McAfee if they have any general recommendations that
may help.

Example - If the AV Product stats a full system scan at boot, it can really
time up HDD resources and really slow the boot/logon process down.
Scheduling it to run sometime during the day or overnight can help.

I Presume if you opened a Ticket w/McAfee and Novell, each side would be
more than happy to chat with each other to see what is going on.
