We're having a similar problem. XP, Client 4.91(up to SP5), ZDM7.1.
Did you ever find a working solution? Setting Portfast at the switch, as suggested in the previous post, certainly helped with getting IP/multicast addresses for imaging, but didn't fix our problem with workstations booting faster than they could detect the network.
Did you find the magic client setting?
