Default How to modify settings.txt on Zen Partition

Hopefully one of you guru's can help a newbie out.

I am using Zenworks 7 imaging and am installing the zen partition.
The settings file I have burned to CD and then get transferred to the
workstations is set to DHCP.
The problem is when everyone turns on their computers in the morning it
quickly uses up the DHCP addresses
and some of the workstations time out at the SuSe boot screen because DHCP
failed.

I would like to be able to modify the settings file located on the zen
partition to be a static ip(s) and I know what settings need to change.
What I don't know is how to modify the settings.txt. I saw a posting that
said to use pico, but it referenced Zen 6 and not 7.

I tried booting to the imaging cd and going into manual mode and I typed pico
settings.txt but it could not find pico.

Is pico editor a part of the basic zen partition? If not how do I get it there.
Please be kind as I am very new to this SuSe thing.

Thanks for any insight.
