Add on images

Having trouble creating addon images or just not understanding the
procedure. I was told after I created the application object,. I could go
into the the properties of the object, go to common and then Imaging. Aftter
making the neccessary changes create image, then i get a message saying
"failed to cache application" ?? any help?
