I need help adding NIC driver to initrd

I am trying to add a new NIC driver to my initrd file for a new PC model.
I have never done this b-4 so will need much help. I have a SLES 10 64-bit
server available to do the compile, but the kernel version does not match
the imaging kernel. I have found all the docs pertaining to this, but
still having issues.

So if someone can help from step 1 to completion, it would make a very
