Default initrd

Hello,

I am trying to add some drivers to the ZENWorks boot cd to accommodate a uli526x driver. When I use cpio to extract the initrd I get the following:

I'm not sure if this will post correctly but it basically looks like traditional Chinese writing. The result of this is nothing I can understand, and even worse the files are not extracted. Is there a switch or something I am not using? I have extracted other using the following command taken from the ZENworks documentation:

cpio -idmuv < initrd >/dev/null 2>&1

Any ideas?
