Updating drivers from one initrd to another

We are installing new Lenovo S12's and the imaging initrd from feb 09 works. The thing is the imaging resource files from feb 09 don't work with other laptops we have. I was wondering how I extract the drivers for the tg3 from the feb 09 resource files and put them in the current initrd that works with other laptops. I've tried the August 09 imaging resource files and they do not work with the S12 as well...
