I skipped the eval install and went to consolidated and it allowed me to
choose a remote SQL server and setup fine.

Just another case of Novell's poor documentation.

I would recommend that you read and understand the installation guide before
going any further:

If you want to avoid the DB requirement and you are only doing basic testing
of ZESM, you can try with the "Unmanaged Installation":

Windows Server 2003 fully patched (Running in a MSFT Virtual Environment)
MS
SQL 2008 Express and NZEM (ZESM_3‑5‑182) just downloaded the latest ISO
from
Novell last night.

The entire install goes through then at the "Configuring Database" section
it bombs with, "Database Configuration Failed Setup will now Abort"

But, we need more details if you want us to help you.

Which ZESM build are you using? Which installer you used from the media?
OS/DB Language?
What is the exact error message you are getting?
At which stage in the install?

Hi,

i'm trying to install the stand‑alone console for demo purposes, but
the setup always fails at the database config stage.

It's on XP SP3 with sql express 2005, set too dual authentication mode
etc....

any ideas?
