Default How to reset OS detection?

I made a mistake- in my efforts (now abandoned - see Here) to mirror a yum repository I created a Custom Platform - rhel4-ws-noarch - and re-used the OS detection string from an existing target. So now some workstations have changed thier OS type to rhel4-ws-noarch and are not picking up their updates any more.

I cant delete the rhel4-ws-noarch target presumably because its in use. I've disabled it and changed the OS detection string to prevent further problems.

I've found that rebooting the workstation seems to reset the OS Type but that 'rug refresh' or 'rug restart' doesnt.

Is there any less drastic way of forcing OS re-detection?

regards
Randall
