Did you try creating the Windows 7 install on a single partition by removing the 100mb during install? To do this simply create your partition and windows automatically creates a 100mb part in front of it. Delete your part (not the 100mb) then extend the 100mb to fill the hole left from your deleting of the part. I cant see any reason why this wouldnt work as it is still the same concept as Windows xp, files, partition and boot sector.

Out of curiosity after imaging did you boot to the imaging maintenance mode and run 'img p' to show the partitions on the machine?
