Salem Man Killed in Car-Semi Crash
7/8/09 @ 12:14:03 pm

A 79-year-old Salem man was killed in a car-semi accident on Route 37
South of Salem Wednesday morning. The Marion County Coroner's Office
identifies the victim as Paul Black of Route 37 South.

Initial information indicates Black initially ran off the road to avoid
another car that was passing two trucks. Black apparently lost control
in the process and ran into the rear axle wheels of a truck carrying a
large concrete bridge girder from Egyptian Concrete. Both the truck and
car then ran into the roadside ditch. Black was trapped in his car and
had to be extricated by Salem Fire Protection District Firemen. He was
pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Tom Nicolay. The driver of the
semi was not hurt.

Initial information indicates the driver of the car that was passing the
two trucks that apparently caused the accident did not stop. State
Police handled the accident, and reports are not yet available.

The coroner's office says Black had just left his home in the area of
the accident to go to a church meeting when the wreck occurred. Black
was minister at the Church of the Nazarene in Edgewood and was also
involved with the Salem Assembly of God Church. Funeral services are
pending at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem.

Yes, Paul Black was my dad.
