Tested with iPrint client versions 5.82 and 5.92. Workstation is Windows 7. Workstation is domain joined. Attempting to install a Windows IPP printer on a Windows domain member server from a web browser and get an iPrint error that says "Novell iPrint Client" "Printer authentication failed. Do you want to try again?" It's not an iPrint printer. I did some experimentation and found the following:
The Windows printer installs correctly when the eDirectory user account is Admin equivalent.
It doesn't matter whether the user is in the local administrators group on the workstation.
The Windows printer installs correctly when the iPrint client is not installed.
The Windows printer installs correctly if the Windows print server is set to allow anonymous authentication.
A LAN trace shows the following:
Successful with iPrint client installed - the initial HTTP GET contains a cookie and Authorization data.
Unsuccessful with iPrint client installed - the initial HTTP GET contains neither a cookie nor Authorization data.
Successful without iPrint client - the initial HTTP GET contains Authorization data but no cookie.
My questions, besides the obvious "how do you fix this?", is why does the iPrint client allow the Authorization data through when the user is Admin equivalent but strips it when the user isn't?
