Our city has banned fireworks on the Fourth. Guess that is why Gabbie Dog isn't
more than a foot away from me all evening. Sounds like a war outside.

I walked down the street like an old curmudgeon and told the wooper-snappers
to knock it off. They said "It's only one day a year!"

to which I replied, "The Oakland Hills fire was only one day too....and
we've got historic droughts going on".

They actually shut 'er down!

Ours does too, but it's kind of pointless when the *adjacent* town
allows the sale and use. I can drive 5 miles and legally buy fireworks.

Fortunately, we're in the desert. Unfortunately, we still get the
occasional brushfire.

Sudden loud noises and flashing bright lights make me nervous.

Had a comcast guy out here on the Fourth and he said this was the first year in
several that he felt he could "do" the Fourth of July. He did four years in
Afghanistan.

I'm surprised he can still take it. It usually stays that way for rest
of life in most cases.

He left his number, maybe I should call him and ask how things went.

Sadly, yes. Today was my last day on the payroll, although I haven't been in the
office for two weeks.

Okay, I have an interview on Thursday at the City. I hope to hear about some of
the applications I made for other positions at the City this week.

I was off on vacation and avoiding email, but we lucked out with our two
new pups. Neither one spooked at the fireworks sounds, but they now have
great hatred for the kids that have been setting them off all week. Turns
out they don't like the smell of gunpowder or smoke. Pretty cool, because
I can't stand those teenagers anyway. :)
