GMS - Deleting email on device

I've noticed that if you delete an email in your device, it also deletes it on your account. Is there an option to set it up so it only deletes it on the device or I'm better off using POP3?

Also, how do I put a limit on how much mail its gonna pull like say the Inbox to just download like 50 emails. Thanks.

No - this is a true "sync" client - it has been requested that this be
    looked at for future versions.

You limit by number of days, not by number of mails. If you log into the
WebPim, go to "setup", "account" and then to "performance settings" you can
choose the number of days to sync. You can also pick contacts and folders
to sync on the Account Settings page.

P.S. - if you are using a Palm, and want to stop the phone from downloading
any mail (while still updating calendar and contacts), the easist way to
accomplish this is to move the syncmail app to the SD card, or just delete
it! If the Syncmail app is not in the internal memory of the Palm, it does
not request mail at all. So if you decide to go back to POP mail for some
reason, but want to keep the calendar/contacts synching, this is the trick
to avoid extra data/synching that you don't desire.
