While attending Brainshare I visited with the GW IM developers and spoke
with them about running GW IM from outside the network. Specifically, in
reference to Sindre Westre arcticle
(http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/9840.html) where it says
high ports - 1024-65535 need to be open for it to work.

They told me this was absolutely wrong and only 8300 (or any other port
you may choose) is all that is needed. And they told me this is how they
are using it now.

After testing with our firewall engineer we could see that the client was
trying all sorts of random high ports from the dirty side (internet).

I am confused that the Novell engineers assure me it works with one
source/destination port (like Exchange messenger - cringe), but it
appears not too.

I no longer have the engineer's names I met at Brainshre, I would surely
like it know if they still stick by this.

Any ideas where to go from here?
