    Miscellaneous memory climbing until out of memory

    Hi

    I purchased a Dell PowerEdge 2800 server with 4 gigs of ram and installed
    the Netware 6.5 sp3 overlay cd, actually Open Enterprise Server. I
    experienced the memory problems that have been discussed in this forum.
    First I applied all the bios and hardware updates for the Dell server
    then I installed nw65os3a.exe and n65nss3a.exe. I have read TID 10091980,
    10012765, 10089554, 10091810, and 10096649. My memory problem has not
    been fixed by any of these items.

    The problem I have is when I restart the server my cache buffer memory in
    system resources in monitor reports 28% and my miscellaneous memory
    reports 58 %. Over time the cache buffer memory migrates to the
    miscellaneous memory until the cache buffer memory goes below 10 % and
    then my backup program (Arcserve for Netware R11.1) returns a memory
    error and dosen't run. I have to restart the server to get the memory
    back so my backup program can run. This process takes about a week.

    If anyone has had this problem and fixed it I would appreciate some
    advice on what else to try.

    Almost everybody had that, and all of them solved it with nw65os3a. What
    does "version" report on your server?

    Please download fconfig12.exe from the file finder at
    support.novell.com. Extract Config.nlm from it and copy that to
    SYS:SYSTEM . On the console do LOAD CONFIG /ALL, and wait until the
    output file CONFIG.TXT gets created (on NW 6.x this message only appears
    on the Logger screen). Please post that file here, with any public IP
    addresses and RConsole passwords edited out - you can delete the long
    file listing at the end if it's too big to post. Thank you.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ----
    ; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
    ; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register
    Filters.
    ;
    ; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be
    used
    ; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to
    ; configure the DA.
    ; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA <addr type>,
    <addr>'.
    ; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type.
    Currently, only
    ; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr
    is
    ; the address specified.
    ;
    ; The following is an example of a static DA.
    ; DA IPV4, 130.1.1.1
    DA IPV4, 10.0.231.202
    ;
    ; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all
    services
    ; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For
    example,
    ; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to
    scope "printer".
    ; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "<type name>" to
    SCOPE "<scope name>"'.
    ; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords
    followed by quote on
    ; a single line. Example:
    ;
    ; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
    ;
    ; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon
    specifies a
    ; comment.

    Apply tsa5up18, and make sure TSAFS gets loaded with a reasonable

    Load TSAFS /CacheMemoryThreshold=5

    Hi

    I installed the patch and made all the setting changes you recommended
    and restarted the server. The system resources still report cache buffer
    memory at 28% and miscellaneous memory at 60%.

    Hi

    I will have to wait for a week to see if the errors are still happening,
    that is how long it was taking for the cache buffers to go down to 10%.
