There are 2 possible patches which could help: wsock6h and n65nss3a.
Don't have details since now on SP4/5. I'm pretty sure the winsock
patch has some rsync specific fixes in it if you check the readme.

You also don't say which version of rsync you run, but I use the 2.63
from forge.novell.com. Sometimes nw support packs overwrite the rsync
files with older versions - check for that.
