I posted a similar question in the GroupWise agents section on 8/1, with no response. So, I thought maybe this forum would notice something amiss, outside of GroupWise, causing the problem. I've included the /jumba1se config.txt file, less the db file and abends listing.

We are seeing a symptom of the utilization, but not the root cause. One place it's obvious is the GroupWise Post Office screen. The C/S requests (TCP) are off the charts. The LAN Admin is saying that the users aren't 'feeling' the high utilization during their workday. The utilization appears to happen during their workday only. I'm thinking it's a chatty NIC somewhere or something, and when the PC is off, the utilization goes away. Or maybe several switch port NIC setting mismatches?

Does anyone see anything obvious in the config, or could suggest some troubleshooting methodology on how to determine what the TCP requests are for? I've included the GroupWise person's synopsis below, which was posted in the Gwise agents forum, with no response.

Thanks - April

Situation:

Groupwise 7.0.2hp1a poa running on Netware 6.5sp5 server. There are 165 users assigned to this post office with no more that 50 physical connections and 75 application connections at any one time. Although mail and administrative updates seem to be processing ok, the number of c/s requests are through the roof. After the lasted restart (poa up approx. 3 hrs) it had processed all necessary mail (94 msgs) but has over 7.1 million C/S requests. I verified that there are no pending messages in the incoming or outgoing queue for the poa or the owning mta (the mta is on a different server and I unloaded the mta for a short time while troubleshooting). The log files don't show anything unusual except in diagnostic mode when there are from 500 to 2500 of "dispatched message for connection #X protocol *(TCP)" entries per second. When I match up the connection # with monitor, they all appear to be server processes and not linked to any user connections.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing all the c/s requests?

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
;
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be used
; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to
; configure the DA.
; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA <addr type>, <addr>'.
; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type. Currently, only
; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr is
; the address specified.
;
; The following is an example of a static DA.
; DA IPV4, 130.1.1.1
;
; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all services
; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For example,
; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to scope "printer".
; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "<type name>" to SCOPE "<scope name>"'.
; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords followed by quote on
; a single line. Example:
;
; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
;
; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon specifies a
; comment.
