    Uptime Best Practice Question

Has anyone established a best practice of "server maintenance" i.e.
    rebooting servers?

Is there anything to be gained by rebooting a server once a month? once
    a quarter? etc...etc...

I know that Netware servers are supposed to be self-tuning.....

    Thank You.

    No.

Nope -- about the only time I down a server is for hardware upgrades or
    deploying SP's.

Our UNIX-like systems seem to like a monthly reboot, but our NetWare
servers don't. Our Windows servers get rebooted monthly due to Patch
Tuesday, so we haven't seen an uptime long enough on that end of the house
to see if we're gaining anything by having a monthly reboot.

None that I know of. Our file-serving cluster will run just happily for
months on end. Downtime is caused by badly tuned service-packs, and I
understand Novell has finally gotten that problem largely beaten down with
    SP5 + a few post-SP patches.

Don't let peer-pressure force you into unneeded downtime!

I only would reboot servers when needed (patches, abends etc)
