Hello all,

I am having some issues with my server hanging at the "Scanning for
devices and partitions" step connecting to an EMC CX300 SAN with a
QLogic 2310F HBA. If I don't load the QLogic driver in the STARTUP.NCF
but instead load it in the AUTOEXEC.NCF, it boots okay and is able to
see its LUNs. It is a direct connection to the SAN; no fiber switch
involved. It is not booting from the SAN and PowerPath is not being
used.

I've seen that other people with similar problems have let the server
sit for 10-20 minutes and it finally continues to boot. I let mine sit
for 5 minutes but that long of a boot time is unacceptable. When it
does hang, the keyboard becomes unresponsive and I can't switch console
screens. I haven't seen any errors.

I've tried adding a /LUNZERO switch but that didn't help. As far as I
can tell, I have the HBA BIOS settings set to match my environment.
There is a newer QLogic BIOS I am going to try but EMC support doesn't
think that will fix it. They believe it is a driver timing issue.

Here is my setup:

EMC Clariion CX300
QLogic 2310F, 1.43 BIOS, 6.80g driver
HP/Compaq Proliant ML350 G3, (2) Xeon 2.2 GHz processors, 2 GB RAM
NetWare 6.0 SP5 with Proliant SP 7.30

Here is my STARTUP.NCF:

------------------------------
LOAD CPQACPI.PSM
LOAD NWASPI.CDM
LOAD IDECD.CDM
LOAD SCSIHD.CDM
LOAD ADPT160M.HAM SLOT=10004
LOAD ADPT160M.HAM SLOT=10005
LOAD IDEATA.HAM PORT=1F0 INT=E
LOAD CPQRAID.HAM SLOT=2
LOAD QL2300.HAM SLOT=1 /LUNS
------------------------------

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Patrick
