Novell Client for Vista Tech Preview Comments

It is interesting that there was so much interest in Novell releasing a
Client for Vista, but now that the Tech Preview version is available there
has been very little said about it. I'm would like to hear everyone's
comments about the Vista Client, or is nobody using it yet.

Actually there is very little to say. I could install it without problems.
The primary login still was MS after the restart.

I could manually login by using the tray icon to my server by entering an
    ip-address.
*MY* login script ran fine. Look and feel is the same as the current
    version.

Maybe the client has some major internal reworks. On the outside almost
nothing has changed. The readme indicates some issues -which is not a big
problem for us, because Vista itself is IMO not ready for production use.

I found the client installed and ran.
Windows explorer opened novell drives very slowly the first time you
accessed them but after the this it was ok (win indexing?). I'm used to
the zen single sign on so having to enter a netware and windows user was
    a bit different.

Aero (a chocolate bar with holes in it in the uk) worked fine on my amd
    4000 x2 with nvidia 430 & 1 mb.

For a tech demo from Novell I was impressed with the initial features it
offers, very close to the xp client.

After a day of vista it got wiped from my system as I came to the
conclusion that the only thing it can do that xp can't is have fancy
windows which I would switch off if vista ever used in our production
    environment.

Out of suse 10.2 and vista I think suse looks more impressive and
polished as an OS, unfortunately the only os we will every upgrade to
    will be vista.

Only thing Vista really brings is DRM and anti-piracy features.
It's as boring an OS release as XP was. SuSE, Linux and OSX have much more
    going on.

As far as the Vista client goes, well it's something. Forums might be quiet
while we gnaw on this bone for awhile. Since we can't really complain
about it since we are lucky to have anything, I'd suspect those of us that
realize that aren't going to be chiming in anytime soon.

Right -- same here -- on a Vista Ultimate RC1 64 and a Vista Business
    32 bit version.

Fair amount of stuff that needs to get done to hook back into Vista. I
suspect in the future there might be stuff to 'surface' some Vista
    specific things.

Regarding Vista and production use -- if you want a fun read, check out
the various Microsoft vista newsgroups -- have a good news reader and a
ready hand for the Bozo filter, as there are a LOT of 'If you don't
love Vista you're an idiot' folks battling with a 'If you think Vista
is good you're an idiot' folks.

There is a known issue with not being able to run .exe files off a
server if it requires access control elevation.

So for me it is nice to toy with but as we warned, not really much more
than public proof Novell is indeed working on a Client for Vista :)

I did find it interesting when it got quite quiet regarding Vista
    support.

The client sort of works, it isn't integrated into the Vista login yet,
so you need to log in manually after logging into Vista. It does
handle drive mapping and I've set it up on both Vista 64 and 32
    workstations for tests.

Some others have reported issues -- but at this point, that is to be
    expected.

I wrote the "access denied" issue back on 2/6/07 evidently not many others
are having a problem. Can someone who has things working somewhat nicely
give me a snip of your login script, I'm using "map root" and wondering if
    that is the problem.
    Thanks.

Did anyone find out if the map root is the issue for Access Denied?
