I have many windows XP Novell clients that I have set the tree to server's
IP address and that seemed to fix many problems after migrating from
Novell 4.11 and GroupWise 5.5 to Suse 9 and OES with GroupWise 6.5.
I have one user in particular and several other users who occasionally
loose there connection to the file server and loose there drive mappings.
This occasionally happens at boot up or after they have been logged on for
a while. The worst case person was loosing connections several times a
day we replaced the nic card and it seemed to get better for a day or
two. We replaced the computer from a dell to a HP and the problem may
have been better for a week. I reinstalled the Novell Client several
times. I switched ports on the network.
I ran a cable off a hub from a user not having this problem. The problem
user still disconnected. In the PC Novell client properties I went to the
Advanced Settings tab bad address Cache timeout to 0. I have gone to the
Console One object properties for the person General tab environment
option and set to the default server to the file server in question I have
also turned off sleep mode on the NIC cards on the clients with the worst
problem. The only things that I think helped was assigning the server in
Console One general tab environment to the server name and possibly
turning the NIC card's sleep mode off. What I see on the client PC's is
that it still connects to the mail server. It sees the tree. It also
sees the file server in Netware tree but does not let me explore the
server to map the drive. It gives and authorization error. If any one has
any better solutions please let me know. I would really like to put this
problem behind me. I have enclosed the error message when trying to log
in with a Novell client when the problem is occurring.
