Server: Netware 6.5 sp6 (+ post sp6 patches)
Clients: Win XP Pro sp2, NW Client 4.91 sp2 (+ post patches) - fresh install
ZFD 7.0.1

When the login screen appears the hard drive runs for about 25 seconds
(if ZFD agent is installed) and a capture of packets shows a series of
DNS queries as follows:

From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin.mi.us
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin.us
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name

In this case the CONTEXT is the context where the Workstation object is
stored. This repeats a couple of times. I am not sure why it is
querying DNS for the context.tree, and am not sure if this is
contributing to the slow login.

After this there are a number of SRVLOC requests, followed by some ICMP
requests and replies (three pings and replies to three different
servers), then a large quantity of tcp and nds packets which I believe
are Zenworks related.

After typing in a username and password:

The login screen sometimes disappears quickly, sometimes sits for 15-30
seconds. The login script window will stay on the screen anywhere from
10 seconds to a minute and a half before continuing on to the desktop.

Packet capture shows a query for server.domain returning the right IP
address, a couple of LDAP packets, and some binds and searches to the
server.

After that their is a series as follows:
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin.mi.us
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin.us
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name
From PC to DNS server Standard query A CONTEXT.TREENAME.doamin
From DNS Server to PC Standard query response, No such name

This repeats a couple of times. I am not sure why it is querying DNS
for the context.tree, and am not sure if this is contributing.

After this are a plethora of NCP, TCP, and NDS communications.

Any ideas, hints, or tips as to how to examine and intrepreted this data
to track down the inconsistencies and slowness would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Daryl
