Scenario

==Our library uses a SUN/Oracle based app called VTLS for patron
record
etc.
==Win 95 machines run a win32 client called virtua.
==If we install the NIPP1.05 or 6 client on the PC's => OK
==If we then add 1 or more IPP printers, when the client runs a patron

query
VTLS client (virtua) locks up. IE, GroupWise and any other apps still
OK
(except START|SETTINGS|PRINTERS which also locks).
==On resetting the machine (because VTLS process cannot unload),
machines
hang on Novell Client splash screen (Not GUI login).
==Reboot in Safe Mode and simply remove the IPP printer(s) added
earlier
(not the IPP client) and the problem goes away.

It seems that in my case if any IPP printers are install it causes the

issue.
By removing the printer(s) and still having the client installed
tells me it's something to do with the windows OS spooler?

Further to the Patron query above:

By changing the iPrint client on the server you can find out when a
client
accesses the server since the client is designed to notify the user on
the
availability of the new iPrint client. I installed 1.05 on a machine
exhibiting the problem and then put the 1.06 client files on the
server.
When I went into VTLS no sign of notification. I called up the patron
search
dialog, still no notification. As soon as I gave the search some info
and
clicked OK, the iPrint client notification came up. That coincides
with the
lockup. From this I assume that VTLS is polling the local printers as
it
runs the query in readiness to print the results.

Can anyone shed some light on why the applications (VTLS and now we
have
seen GroupWise do it) lock permanently. I can accept that they may
pause
until they find the printer (this is normal windoze behavior). But the
apps
never recover. In addition, if the machine is reset it then hangs on
the
Novell splash screen as I referred to earlier??????????

Any insight appreciated in advance
