Hello all,
on our high school of electrotechnics (200+ Intel-based workstations
with MS Windos 9x/2000 and Linux] we just upgraded NW5 to NW6, and we
want
pure IP network. For it we must replace about 10 remote printers
realised
as DOS based PC with rprinter and printer connected to parallel port. We suggested as simplest way replacing DOS/rprinter/SPX with one
floppy
Linux/CUPS/TCPIP or Linux/LPD/TCPIP systems.
OK, systems works from Unix/Linux clients, but from windows/netware
client we
aren't satisfied. We tried these configurations:

- Linux/CUPS/TCPIP on remote printserver (CUPS is working over IPP)
and iprint
client on Windows, with printing to
"ipp://remote_printer_IP/printers/lp0".
It work, but this solution completely bypass Netware, isn't
possible capture
printer to LPTx port (for some old DOS application) and not allow
central
print drivers install on Windos clients. And just today in this
scenario
isn't possible take away these disadvantages, it's true?

- Linux/LPD(LPRng)/TCPIP on remote printserver and NW server NDPS
printer
object printing over LPR gateway ( NDPSGW port=LPR ) on it. It
work, but
this solution has disadvantage too: we can't monitor and control
LPD daemons
queues. Novell documentation says about using SNMP for it, but know
some any
details about it?

- Linux/CUPS/TCPIP on remote printserver and NW server NDPS printer
object
printing over IPP gateway ( NDPSGW port=IPP ) on it. We think it's
best
solution, but we can't do it working. Some Novell documentation say
about
excluding IPP support from NDPS gateway in SP2 and above (we have
applied
SP3), on other hand TID 10072638 say about manual configuration for
this
gateway type support. But it is only about iManager, not about
underlying
support modules. True is only that we got no IPP packet from NW
server to
CUPS printer, NW server not respond to IPP advertisements, in some
cases
Netware server crashed. Know anyone about proper configuration for
this
configuration?

- Or know anyone about other, simple and low-cost solution for remote printing?
(and we don't want install on Windos other than Novell Netware
clients)

Thanks in advance,
