High util on Shutting down printer 93 of 161 in NW65 cluster resource migration

When we migrate iprint volume on our cluster (NW6.5sp5) it ususally works
fine. (printer shutdown quickly as in cluster script)

Just recently, the last two resource migrations stopped at 'Shutting down
    printer 93 or 161'
The server at this point has very high util and must be powered off (waited
    15 mins - couldn't load monitor - seems hung)

Why is it stopping at the same printer? Good question - there must be
something up with that printer #93.

Is there an easy way of finding out which prt is #93? I went to the console
and paged through the NDPS manager printers, but there must be another way
of counting? Then I wondered if the alphabetical order of NDPS Manager
display is the same sequence in counting to 93?

I tried looking at the 93rd printer, however there didn't seem to be
    anything unusual about it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Graham

    Yes there is a way...

    look at this doc.
    http://www.novell.com/products/netwa...ug_display.pdf

Look on page 15 or 16.. It describes the steps in viewing Printer Agent
information via the debug display mechanism.

    Hope this helps!!

And yes, you are correct. There is something wrong with the printers
mentioned. Usually it is a corrupt attribute in the NDPS printer database
(the MOD), or a hung thread between the NDPSM and the Gateway. If possible,
the easiest way to fix is to delete the offending printer, and recreate.

There is a newer NDPSM Print Manager that will not "Hang" in this situation.

Re: High util on Shutting down printer 93 of 161 in NW65 clusterresource migration

The commands according to the docs you suggested were:

    NDPS MANAGER DEBUG DISPLAY=+CONSOLE
Press 'O' for options menu, select 4)Display PA Info, type in PA number

    Looks very useful. Thanks.

Novpatch3761 says it's for nw6.5sp6. Will it work on our current nw6.5sp5? Perhaps we should wait for sp7?

Actually checked with the developer. The fixes I mentioned are in the patch indicated. However, we are trying to make sure that SP7 is better than the previous. Only so much a few can do!!

Re: High util on Shutting down printer 93 of 161 in NW65clusterresource migration

Thanks very much for the info. Will this iprint patch (Novpatch3761) work on our NW65sp5? Or do we need to upgrade everything (whole server) to sp6?

SP7?? Any idea about how soon this is going out in public? IT department
here is considering moving to SP6, and I have warned them about all this
iPrint mess that SP6 created. If SP7 is coming soon, maybe they
reconsider and move directly from SP5 to SP7 (that is if there isn't
    another big mess with SP7).
