Server: Nw6.0sp2 with latest CIFS & NSS patches.
Network: mostly XP and some 2K clients, all using CIFS, no client32
CIFS Setup: Domain mode redirection to PDC
Goal: Have OSX boxes authenticate with same method as PCs...NOT using
AFP
at all.

OSX 10.2.8 offers the ability to mount the volumes via
"smb://servername/vol". I'd much rather use this method as it allows
for
long filenames and is a consistent user interface with the Win2000
servers
we use. Attaching to the CIFS server via the GUI returns an "unknownusername or bad password" error. I have no problem mounting Samba
volumes
on Suse 8.2 or 9.0...

OSX 10.2.8 utilizes Samba 2.2.3. As a comparision SuSE Linux 8.2 or
9.0 are
able to login to this CIFS server using smbclient and smbmount just
fine.
Samba versions here used are 2.2.5 and 2.2.8a.

I'm thinking this has to do with the now ancient version of Samba in
OSX
10.2.8. Is there a package available for updating Samba? Is Netware
at
fault for not passing login credentials properly? I'm suspecting it's
an
Apple issue, but it seems like there's just not much documentation out
there
for accessing a Netware server via CIFS from an OSX box.

Any help is much appreciated as I've all but given up on trying to
make this
work...

TIA,
Mike
