We had a report from a teacher that an Excel file on the server refused
to open. I investigated and sure enough when attempting to open the
file the following message was displays:

'spooky stat asgn ml mrg dta.xls' cannot be accessed
The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only
location. Or, the server the document is stored on may be having

With some further work we determined that it refused to open because it
was nested to deep. The path to the file, starting with server volume,
continuing through several folders is shown below.

elem.inst (server volume)/users/shared files/primary/harperc/forms,
fabulous forms/Project 3-station assignment sheets/spooky stat asgn ml
mrg dta.xls

As soon as we moved the file up one level in the hierarchy, it opened
fine. Is there some type of limitation on the full length of the path
of how deep a file can be nested?

We are using Netware 6.5sp2 with the version of AFP released last
October, I believe this is the newest. We are opening the file from a
Mac running MacOS 10.3.7.
