I have an ISP and I recently replaced my Win2k DNS servers with
servers
running Netware6 DNS, SP3. We host mail for about 20 companies and we
use
an email server software from IPSwitch called IMail Server that runs
on a
Win2k server.

Since I replaced my DNS I have been getting mail bounced back
from
remote mail hosts, mostly using Sendmail 8.xx. I have been tracking
this
problem for a while now and have narrowed it down to a DNS issue. It

appears that the Netware DNS is having problems understanding the
queries
from the remote servers. Ultimately the remote DNS ends up with a
response that the domain does not exist that the email was sent from
and
rejects the message. The remote DNS does a negative ttl and wont
retry
until that expires.

I believe I have the NW6 setup properly. It resolves fine locally
and
when I run www.dnsreport.com everything shows ok. However Netware DNS
is
new to me so there is that possibility that I have not configures
something correctly.

Packet captures between DNS servers during this issue show the
following

158.81.251.201-> 65.16.167.132 DNS C egglestonbriscoe.com. Internet
Addr ?
65.16.167.132 -> 158.81.251.201 DNS R egglestonbriscoe.com. Internet

158.81.251.201 -> 65.16.167.132 DNS C progressivesystems.biz.
Internet

158.81.251.201 -> 65.16.167.136 DNS C progressivesystems.biz.
Internet

65.16.167.136 -> 158.81.251.201 DNS R Error: 3(Name Error)
158.81.251.201 -> 65.16.167.136 DNS C smart-mail.net. Internet
Unknown
(28) ?
65.16.167.136 -> 158.81.251.201 DNS R Error: 3(Name Error)

In later captures the Error: 3(Name Error) was replaced by Error:1

(Format Error)

65.16.167.132 and 65.16.167.136 are my dns servers at
smart-mail.net,
egglestonbriscoe.com and progressivesystems.biz are domains on my dns.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
