Cross platform school running NW6/SP4 with various Mac clients (OS 8.6,
9.1, 9.2, 10) and Windows 98 clients. Unauthorized IP addresses shown in
DHCP console. Clients not responding to ping or sending decline packet. It
seems that many of these clients are given an IP address but don't maintain
communication with the DHCP server so the IP is handed out to another
client. Macs are using Appleshare to connect via AFPTCP. Their connection
simply drops. The Windows 98 systems get the duplicate IP message. It looks
like the mac address of the offending machine is always in the Apple range.
This all started when we setup VLANs in this school. All systems are
operating in the same VLAN #4. Any suggestions?
