This probably relates to the fact your workstation is getting a dhcp
address from the actual NIC IP address of the server, rather than a
secondary ip address. When you release the IP address, the workstation
attempts to comminucate with the box it got it's lease from, and when
dhcp fails over, will be unable to.

In the resource script for the DHCP object, bind a secondary IP and
load dhcpsrvr pointing the --servaddr=A.B.C.D switch to the secondary
address.
