Trying to setup a cron job to backup some directories.

Just trying to do something basic, like a simple cp command and date
command to see if cron jobs are running.

Isn't it basically just editing /etc/crontab and entering in the line for
the command your desire.

I'm learning how to do this on Suse 10 desktop, before trying it on server.

Here is /etc/crontab:

SHELL=/bin/sh
PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/lib/news/bin
MAILTO=root
#
# check scripts in cron.hourly, cron.daily, cron.weekly, and cron.monthly
#
-*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons &&
/usr/lib/cron/run-crons >/dev/null 2>&1
* * * * * cp -p -a -f /home/usernm/test/source /home/usernm/dest
* * * * * date

Where do I look to see if command is executing? So far, command has not
ran.

thanks,
Lin
