Can anyone succinctly explain the difference/relationship between cache buffers and cache memory? I did some forum searches and couldn't find the answer.

I understand the "Original Cache Buffers" are directly proportionate to the amount of memory a server has.
"Total Cache Buffers" are the amount currently available.

I've been looking at my memory statistics with seg.nlm and it reports:

Original Cache Memory: 3.50gb
Available Cache Memory: 2.86gb

Monitor, on the other hand reports:

Original Cache Buffers: 916,450
Total Cache Buffers: 249,130

Shouldn't my total cache buffers be higher or at least proportional to my available cache memory? Basically, I want to find out what is using so many cache buffers. According to seg.nlm, things are good (I think) but monitor shows otherwise. The output from segstats.txt appears below.
