Around Christmas time, I want to take two of my kids from here (Ottawa)
to visit the other two (one in Vancouver, one in Washington). So my
plan was to get on a plane in Ottawa, fly to Vancouver, rent a car, pick
up the kid in Vancouver, then drive south to where the other kid is. A
flight to Vancouver is over $800. A flight to Seattle (that changes
planes in Vancouver) is $600. Apparently though, you're not allowed to
buy the flight to Seattle and just get off in Vancouver, because that
will raise all kinds of red flags and we'd probably not be able to drive
through the border with people who are supposed to be flying over at
about the same time.
