From time to time, we get the following message on some NetWare servers:

ANS1870E NDS transport failure FFFDFEAF has occurred. Please contact
Novell to resolve it.

The backup of NDS/eDirectory objects fail for this server. The backup is
otherwise successful.

From Tivoli's web site:
ANS1870E
NDS transport failure FFFDFEAF has occurred. Please contact Novell to
resolve it.

Explanation: This error message is being returned from the NDS call
ResolveName. It indicates that the read/write partition that the object
resides on has been found but is unavailable at this time. Basically,
there is no communication between the backup server and the server that
has the read/write partition that contains this object.

System Action: Object skipped.

User Response: Report the program error to your service representative.

Unloading and reloading TSAFS, TSANDS and the Tivoli agent will typically
clear the error for a time but we currently have one server that
repeatedly fails to back up NDS. The server previously held a Read Write
Replica of the secondary Partition where it resides but we recently have
this server hosting the Master Replica of its Partition. The server holds
no other replicas.

Could this NDS Transport Failure message indicate an issue with DS? All
health checks come back clean but we recently had other DS issues that
could only be resolved by replacing Subordinate References with Read
Writes on some of our servers.

Please advise. Thanks.
