What the h*** is wrong with this town? Everyplace else I've lived,
Halloween is 10/31 every year. Here, unless you read the newspaper, you
don't know WHAT day it will be. Trick-or-treating has very specific
rules: it can't be *on* Halloween because that's the Devil's night; it
can't be on a weekend because that's party night for grownups. So it
ends up being a random weeknight sometime _around_ the end of October --
from 6pm to 7pm. It might be tonight; I don't know. Since I refuse to
buy bags of candy I may not need, I'm keeping my curtains drawn and my
porch light off just in case.
