Vista, Mac unauthenticated access via printer IP address?

We're running NDPS on a NW65SP6 LAN with various 4.9x clients, but the
Vista and Mac computers appear to be able to detect and access our
network printers by IP with no authentication.

Anything one can do about this?

This has nothing to do with NDPS. They are detecting your printservers
and print directly to them. YOu need to check the security of your
    printservers.

We are an HP shop and with most of their printers, you can restrict what
IP addresses can print to the printer. Restricting printing to just your
print server would prevent folks from doing this. You might also
    consider disabling mDNS (bonjour).

As pointed out by Tony you can set up your printers to only allow access
from selected IP addresses such as your print server and I would also add
your management workstation. Also limit the protocols and frametypes
supported by your printers to just what is needed. Typically they come with
everything open. Another useful security element is to implement vlans.

    Cheers,

    Ron
